Four weeks to moving day
Book a free survey and confirm your written itemised quotation. Decide your moving date and, if you are shifting within a housing society, request the lift/parking permission letter. Start decluttering: give away, sell or discard anything that is not moving with you. Every carton saved is packing, transit and unloading avoided.
Documents folder
Create one physical folder with the rental agreement or sale deed, ID copies, utility bills, school records for kids, medical prescriptions and vehicle papers. This folder travels with you on moving day.
Three weeks to go
Start using up perishables and frozen items. Return borrowed items, collect lent items. Order a change-of-address card list — Aadhaar, bank, insurance, subscriptions, courier services. Confirm packing category (standard vs. premium fragile) with your mover and share any updates to inventory.
Two weeks to go
Book electricity, water and internet closure/transfer. Book cooking-gas transfer with the LPG dealer — the process needs the current subscription voucher. Photograph the current home, especially valuables and expensive electronics, in case of any deposit or handover dispute later.
Appliance preparation
- Refrigerator — defrost and dry 24 hours before move.
- Washing machine — drain hose fully; secure the drum with transit bolts if you kept them.
- LED TV — try to have the original box and screen protector on hand; if not, tell the mover so they wrap it in a foam-and-carton crate.
- Gas stove and chimney — disconnect gas pipe, cap the cylinder.
One week to go
Withdraw a small cash reserve for moving-day tips and small buys. Charge power banks. Empty the vehicle petrol tank to a quarter if the car will be transported separately. Note current electricity, water and gas meter readings with a photograph.
Two days to go
Pack the first-night box — chargers, medicines, toiletries, a change of clothes, water, snacks, torch, basic tools, a scissor and packing tape. Keep it with you, not in the truck. Pack your valuables (jewellery, cash, laptops, documents folder) into a small locked bag that never leaves your side.
Moving day
- Do a walkthrough with the packing crew before they start — point out fragile items, antiques, artwork and disassembly needs.
- Ask for cartons to be labelled by room and content.
- Take one final photograph of every packed room before loading.
- Do a visual count of loaded cartons and match it against the packing list on the itemised quote.
- Hand over the keys to the landlord/society only after the truck leaves and you have done a final walkthrough.
At the new home
- Check the unloading count against the loading count.
- Inspect big items — sofa, dining table, TV, fridge, washing machine — for visible damage before signing the delivery challan.
- Ask the crew for basic reassembly of dismantled furniture and bed frames before they leave.
- Note new electricity, water and gas meter readings with a photograph.
First week after moving
Update your address on Aadhaar, bank and insurance. Register with a local doctor and vet if you have pets. Change locks if the previous occupant may have keys. Introduce yourself to immediate neighbours — in Goa this is genuinely useful for local recommendations and low-key security.
Print or save this checklist and tick items as you go. If you would like the Professional Relocation Team to handle any of the packing, transport or destination reassembly, request a free survey and we will share a written itemised quote.

Prices shown are indicative market ranges for planning only and are not final quotations. The final price depends on the actual inventory/volume, pickup and delivery access, floors and lift availability, packing materials, vehicle type, shared or dedicated transport, timing and optional services. A written final quotation is provided after a call, video inventory review or physical survey. GST and optional transit-risk cover, where applicable, are confirmed separately before booking.
The three-week timeline that actually works
Twenty-one days out: begin decluttering room by room and photograph valuable items. Fourteen days out: book the mover after a survey and confirm the vehicle and crew. Seven days out: transfer utilities, inform society, arrange lift booking and pack a survival box with two days of clothing, toiletries and chargers. Two days out: confirm parking and pickup times. Moving day: keep documents and valuables with you, not in the truck.
Print the checklist and stick it on the fridge. Households that treat this as a real three-week plan pay less on moving day than households that compress everything into the last 48 hours — because rushed packing needs more crew hours and often more vehicle capacity.
Room-by-room packing sequence
Start with rooms you use least — store rooms, guest bedrooms and formal living rooms. Kitchen and daily-use bedrooms are packed last so the household stays functional. Fragile items are packed by the crew on moving day with the customer present so the inventory is agreed at packing, not later.
Photograph every fragile item and every wall-mounted piece before it is packed. On the rare occasion something needs to be checked at delivery, photographs make the conversation short and factual instead of speculative.
Post-move settling tips for coastal homes
Unpack essential rooms the same day: bed, kitchen and bathroom. Coastal humidity in Goa means unpacking electronics into open air rather than leaving them boxed. If you moved during monsoon, run a dehumidifier or fans through the first week to protect wooden furniture and books.
Keep a labelled 'first-night' carton with sheets, towels, a change of clothes, phone chargers, basic toiletries, medicines and a kettle. This one carton is the difference between arriving into a functional home and living out of suitcases for a week.
